Who we Are
About Blatant Pixels: we’re not just another indie game studio — we’re the culmination of years of late nights, trial and error, and relentless drive. Every project is built to transform atmosphere and story into something you feel long after the screen fades to black.
Founded by Oren Goldstein, Blatant Pixels was born out of one core belief: games should move you. They should unsettle you, inspire you, and linger with you in ways that feel almost too real.
Why We Do This
We’re not chasing quick wins or a paycheck. This is about something deeper — a creative fire that refuses to die out. Whether it’s through Hollow Despair, our flagship psychological horror project, or future stories waiting to be told, Blatant Pixels is about crafting experiences that matter.
For us, game development is not just mechanics and code. It’s grit. It’s sacrifice. It’s putting everything on the line to make something unforgettable.
If you want to see that in practice, check out our Unity Horror Devlog.
Our Vision
- Immersive Worlds – spaces that breathe, haunt, and react to you.
- Emotional Storytelling – characters and narratives that cut to the core.
- Atmospheric Horror – fear that doesn’t just make you jump, but makes you think.
Our goal is simple: to create games that stand out not because they’re flashy, but because they’re honest. Games that make you stop, reflect, and feel. That’s what About Blatant Pixels truly means — passion turned into unforgettable experiences.
For more inspiration, we often look to the wider indie scene, like the Unity Blog or Game Developer.
Our Projects So Far
When people ask what About Blatant Pixels really means, the answer is in the games themselves. Over the last decade, we’ve built three distinct Unity projects that shaped our identity:
- Haunted Manor – our first real experiment with atmospheric triggers, AI-driven lighting, and interactive horror spaces. It taught us how to balance tension with exploration.
- Space RPG – a leap into procedural design with asteroid mining, upgrades, and a shop system inspired by Galaxy on Fire. This project sharpened our skills in systems design and player progression.
- Hollow Despair – the culmination of everything we’ve learned. A psychological horror experience where sound, pacing, and subtle narrative twists guide players through a fractured town.
Each project brought its own challenges, but together they laid the foundation for what Blatant Pixels is today: an indie studio unafraid to push boundaries.
How We Work
Part of what makes About Blatant Pixels different is how we approach development. We work in Unity HDRP, balancing baked and real-time lighting to keep performance smooth. Tools like Blender power our 3D prop pipeline, while custom C# scripts give us the flexibility to script unique scares and world reactions.
But beyond the tools, our process is about iteration and honesty. We prototype fast, test hard, and throw away what doesn’t fit. Every success and failure becomes part of the devlog so other indie creators can learn with us. Transparency isn’t just a marketing angle — it’s a core value.
Beyond Games
Blatant Pixels goes beyond horror games. Alongside this studio, Oren also leads CloudRack HQ, a platform helping individuals and businesses unlock efficiency through automation and AI. Both endeavors come from the same place: a desire to build, improve, and share.
